Hamilton Central Composting Facility

AIM Environmental Group has been the sole operator of the Hamilton Central Composting Facility since its inception in May of 2006. Aim as OMR (Operate/Maintain/Repair) provider, with its European based support partners, in combination with Maple Reinders as a constructor, developed the process flow, facility layout, and provision of key pre and post process systems for the facility. This project for the City of Hamilton is one of the first of its kind in North America. The Hamilton Central Composting Facility processes source-separated organics (SSO) in an in-vessel composting system. The Facility was designed to process 60,000 tonnes of material per year in large climate controlled vessels. This innovative technology pioneered AIM’s approach to municipal organic waste management and was preceded by future facility designs as seen in Guelph and Calgary. Today the facility receives SSO from the City of Hamilton, Halton Region and The Corporation of the County of Simcoe and services approximately 1,668,000 residents and processes 70,000 tonne per annum.
